AIIMS Study: Why are young people losing their lives while dancing, walking, and working out? AIIMS makes a major revelation
An AIIMS study revealed that heart disease is the leading cause of sudden death among young people in India. In fact, coronary artery disease, or blockage in the arteries, is causing young people to suddenly die.
Young people between the ages of 16 and 45 are losing their lives, sometimes while dancing and sometimes while working out at the gym. Sometimes it seems like this person was perfectly healthy, but how did everything suddenly go down the drain? AIIMS New Delhi conducted a study on such cases, which revealed significant findings. Let us explain it in detail.
This thing came out in the study
An AIIMS study revealed that heart disease is the leading cause of sudden death among young people in India. In fact, coronary artery disease, or blockage in the arteries, is causing youth to die suddenly. This research was conducted from May 2023 to April 2024. The Forensic Medicine and Pathology Department of AIIMS examined 2,214 postmortems. Of these, 180 cases (8.1%) were considered sudden deaths. Of these, 57.2%, or 103, involved victims between the ages of 18 and 45, who appeared completely healthy.
Why is heart disease the biggest cause?
According to the research, 42.6% of sudden deaths among young people were due to heart-related causes. The highest number of cases was of coronary artery disease (CAD), where blockage of 70% or more was found in the heart arteries. The left anterior descending (LAD) artery was most affected, which is the most important artery for the heart. According to Dr. Sudhir Arava, Professor in the Department of Pathology at AIIMS and lead author of the study, most young people never got a heart checkup done and did not take any medication. The disease progressed silently and suddenly became fatal.
These reasons also came to the fore
- 21.3% of deaths were due to respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis or asphyxiation from vomiting while sleeping (especially among alcoholics).
- In some cases, ectopic pregnancy or uterine rupture was observed in women.
- In 21.3% of cases, the cause was not found even after investigation. This was thought to be an electrical heart problem (arrhythmia), which is not detected at postmortem.
When and where do most deaths occur?
- More than 55% of deaths occurred at home.
- 30% of deaths occurred during travel.
- 40% of deaths occurred during sleep at night or early in the morning.
According to the family members, before death, symptoms like sudden fainting, chest pain, shortness of breath or stomach ache were seen.
There is no connection between the Covid vaccine and the infection.
The research clearly states that these deaths were not linked to either COVID vaccination or COVID infection. Most people had received the vaccine, but the deaths were due to chronic heart disease. According to Dr. Sudhir Arava, "We studied approximately 100 young deaths over a year. We found no cases linked to the vaccine. There was only one case of myocarditis, but that too was not linked to the vaccine."
Why are young people having heart problems?
- According to experts, heart disease is quietly increasing among young people these days. Let's explore the main causes.
- smoking and excessive alcohol consumption
- Stress and sedentary lifestyle (less physical activity)
- Junk Food, Obesity and Diabetes/High BP
- If someone in the family has had a heart attack at a young age, the risk is higher.
- Undetected high blood pressure or cholesterol
