PTC Web Desk: Amritsar witnessed a grand Nagar Kirtan on Tuesday to mark the Parkash Purab of fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ramdas Ji. Organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with the support of various religious societies and local congregations, the procession commenced from Sri Akal Takht Sahib following Ardas.

Sacred Guru Granth Sahib Ji was beautifully adorned in a palki, a service performed by Sri Harmandir Sahib’s head granthi, Giani Raghbir Singh. Thousands of devotees participated, chanting “Satnam Waheguru” and paying homage to Guru Ramdas Ji, accompanied by the SGPC members, officials, and the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurgaj. The Nagar Kirtan also featured police bands and Gatka performances, adding to the spiritual and festive atmosphere.

The procession began from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and covered approximately eight km, passing through all 12 historic gates of the old city before concluding at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in the evening. Devotees from across various states participated, presenting Rumalas to Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and welcoming the Nagar Kirtan along the entire route with decorated gates and shabad kirtan.

SGPC staff organised the procession into four segments to ensure smooth arrangements for langar (community meals) and drinking water. Devotees lined the streets in large numbers, and special decorations with yellow turbans and banners inscribed with “Dhan Sri Guru Ramdas Ji” added to the grandeur.

Giani Raghbir Singh extended greetings to domestic and international Sangat on the occasion, emphasising that Guru Ramdas Ji’s life serves as a guiding light for humanity. He described Amritsar, founded by the Guru, as a spiritual hub drawing devotees worldwide, and encouraged followers to live by the Guru’s teachings.

Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurgaj, acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, stressed that Guru Ramdas Ji’s life teaches humility, selfless service, and love. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also congratulated the Sangat and supervised the event to ensure a peaceful celebration.

The city glowed with festive lights and spiritual fervour, with every street and corner resonating with Gurbani. Tomorrow, in the evening, devotees will celebrate with over a lakh of earthen lamps and colourful candles along the sacred Sarovar, culminating in a spectacular, pollution-free fireworks display after Rehras Sahib.
