Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025: 26 Lakh Diyas Light Up 56 Ghats, Guinness Record Set
Ayodhya made history this year during its grand Deepotsav celebrations, setting two new Guinness World Records one for the largest simultaneous ‘diya rotation’ and another for the biggest display of oil lamps, with an astounding 2,617,215 diyas lighting up the city’s ghats.
Chief Minister Receives Guinness Certificates
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received official certificates from Guinness World Records on Sunday, marking the city’s achievement. The recognition highlights Ayodhya’s growing global stature as a spiritual and cultural hub.
Deepotsav: A Celebration of Faith and Unity
Held annually under the guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath, Deepotsav is more than a festival—it’s a symbol of devotion, faith, and community. The event commemorates Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and reinforces the city’s identity as a centre for spirituality and tourism.
Volunteers Unite to Light Millions of Diyas
Thousands of volunteers from universities and colleges joined hands to create this spectacular display. Preparations began early in the day, with participants adding wicks and oil to diyas and arranging them in intricate patterns along Ram ki Paidi. As evening approached, the lamps were lit, creating a breathtaking sea of flickering flames.
A Rigorous Guinness World Record Attempt
To ensure accuracy, Guinness adjudicator Richard Stenning oversaw the process. “Each participant’s entry is tracked using QR codes, and every zone is monitored carefully," he explained. The ghats were divided into multiple zones, each supervised by stewards ensuring every diya was properly placed and lit. Any unlit or misplaced lamps were excluded from the count.
A Night to Remember
As millions of diyas shimmered along Ayodhya’s ghats, the city became a living canvas of devotion and celebration. This year’s Deepotsav not only broke records but also highlighted the spirit of unity and faith that defines Ayodhya.
