Bangladesh Hit by Another Quake Within 24 Hours

Bangladesh experienced another jolt less than 24 hours after Friday’s powerful earthquake , keeping residents on edge. The Earthquake Observation and Research Centre under the Bangladesh Meteorological Department confirmed that a 3.3-magnitude tremor was recorded at 10:36 am on Saturday in Bypile, Ashulia, Dhaka. Officials described it as a minor quake, with the epicentre traced directly to Bypail.

But the country is still reeling from the 5.7-magnitude earthquake that struck on Friday, which has now claimed nine lives and left more than 100 people injured. Interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed deep grief over the rising casualties.

Dhaka Faces the Hardest Blows

In the capital, chaos erupted when bricks and tiles fell from an eight-story building in the Kosaituli area of Armanitola. A nearby beef stall was hit, injuring shoppers and pedestrians. Locals rushed the victims to the hospital before rescue teams arrived. Sadly, three people were declared dead upon reaching the hospital.


In another incident, Maksud (50), a security guard at a construction site in Mugda Medinabagh, lost his life when a railing collapsed. He was originally from Ramgati Upazila in Lakshmipur, officials confirmed.

Panic Leads to More Casualties in Narsingdi

Narsingdi district witnessed widespread panic, with residents rushing down staircases of high-rise buildings. In the chaos, four people were killed, and over a hundred were injured.


At Gabtali in Chinishpur Union, four individuals were struck by falling construction materials from an under-construction building. Eight-year-old Hafez Omar succumbed to his head injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while his father, Delwar Hossain Ujjal, remains in critical condition.

In Palash upazila, 75-year-old Kazem Ali Bhuiyan died after being buried under the debris of a collapsed mud house. Another resident, Nasiruddin, also passed away following injuries sustained during the quake.

With aftershocks continuing and fear still lingering, authorities remain on high alert. The events have once again highlighted the urgent need for improved building safety and public awareness in quake-prone regions.
