BBC Question Time 'bias' row erupts as viewers blast Fiona Bruce: 'Disgraceful!'
BBC viewers exploded with rage while watching Fiona Bruce host Question Time on Thursday evening. The presenter was in Cardiff this week as she was joined by Huw Irranca-Davies, Darren Millar, Rhun ap Iorwerth, Dan Thomas, Jane Dodds, and Anthony Slaughter on the panel.
Topics of discussion included the mounting pressure against Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer after a new development came to light about disgraced Peter Mandelson and whether or not the NHS is now at crisis point. As the studio audience fired their questions at the panel, which featured members of different political parties, fans at home were left fuming - with them claiming that, despite the varied panel, the BBC show was "biased". Posting to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer raged: "@bbcquestiontime @BBCSounds @BBCiPlayer Is the audience stacked full of lefty, pro immigration supporters as per usual Albeit from Plaid , and the limp dems!"
Meanwhile, another echoed: "@bbcquestiontime @BBCiPlayer @BBCSounds @BBCOne Well that's a programme to avoid tonight! A panel of non-entities and a chair that continually buts in like a simple-minded horse, ruining any debate taking place."
A third added: "Dreadful biased programme, dreadful biased woman #bbcqt."
Other viewers targeted their criticism at Fiona, with one commenting: "@RUKWales @macnahgalla The Fiona - it's all about Meeeeee - Bruce show. Bloody woman. Why can't she just STFU!!!"
"Absolutely disgrace Fiona Bruce @bbcquestiontime . Bringing up the news on Mendelson when no one in the audience had even mentioned it!!. Shameful and we know exactly what you are up to," another angry fan fumed.
However, others applauded aspects of the show, mainly the audience. One person wrote: "Good for that young man in the audience for telling the Reform representative to stfu in a polite way #bbcqt."
And another was pleased that the programme had finally returned after a break for Easter. They said: "Easter Recess over back to normality.#bbcqt."
In the same episode, audience members began heckling as a Labour politician was asked about Sir Keir Starmer's future. The Prime Minister is facing calls to quit amid accusations he misled MPs after it emerged that Lord Peter Mandelson was appointed as US ambassador despite failing the security vetting.
Fiona asked Welsh Labour politician Huw Irranca-Davies if Sir Keir should resign if he misled MPs.
Wales's deputy first minister replied: "The story is breaking as we've come on air so I haven't the full details of it but what I do understand so far is that the decision was taken by the Foreign Office but it wasn't raised up to the Prime Minister or the Foreign Secretary either." He then added: "The focus also has to be on the victims of Epstein".
The BBC host continued to press him for an answer: "I'm asking a very simple question, there is no debate the victims are at the heart of this, but the question has been raised tonight about whether Keir Starmer has misled Parliament and if he has should he resign, what do you think?"
However, as he continued to dodge the question, audience members shouted out: "Yes or no?" As he was speaking, an audience member could be heard shouting: "He's lied!"
