Bedding will be dry in no time even in winter if simple steps are followed
As the temperature drops, it can become much harder to dry your laundry after a wash, especially when it comes to bulky items such as bedding. Not only can drying take longer, but you can also end up increasing your energy bills by turning on the heating in order to speed things up. However there are a number of ways in which you can dry bedding efficiently inside.
From using a dehumidifier to sap moisture from the air to adding an extra spin cycle to speed up the process, experts at Winstons Beds have shared their top tips that will have your bedding, and other bulky items, dry in no time. Rebecca Swain from WinstonsBeds.com said: "Not being able to pop the washing on the line can be frustrating, especially as energy prices remain high, but there are still simple and effective ways for households to dry bedding indoors during the colder months.
"Using a dehumidifier or placing a drying rack near a window are simple hacks to dry sheets quickly and evenly without relying too much on costly appliances."
Place your drying rack near a windowYou can optimise drying by placing the rack near a window when it's not raining, as the airflow will help speed up the process. Just be sure to leave enough room to correctly spread sheets out, otherwise they can end up with wet patches or a musty smell.
Use a dehumidifierDehumidifiers will sap the moisture from the air, which will in turn speed up the drying process. Some models even have a dedicated laundry setting that will create the ideal environment for drying clothes.
The experts say: "Drying bedding can take longer during the colder months and shorter days, so running an extra spin cycle will help to remove as much moisture as possible before drying. This simple step can significantly speed up the drying process."
Use a fanPlacing a fan near your sheets as they dry help moisture evaporate more quickly indoors, where there's less air movement than outside. Ensure that you are also rotate your bedding from time to time to ensure it is spread out evenly, allowing air to circulate more effectively and speed up the drying process.
Don't overcrowd the drying rack"When drying a load of washing, space can be tight, but overcrowding will only delay the drying process and can lead to funny smell," say the experts.
"Make sure to space out your laundry, and if needed, wash a smaller load at a time. This gives items like sheets the time they need to dry properly, without turning your whole house into a laundry zone."
