Cops have started a probe into whether it was a case of murder or suicide.

Cops have seized two firearms and several rounds of ammunition from the spot. According to the police, Mondal, who had a building materials business, used to live in the flat alone.

Alerted by locals, cops reached the spot and found Mondal’s body lying in a pool of blood.

The victim’s younger brother, Swarup Mondal, lodged a complaint claiming that it was a planned murder linked to financial transactions. He alleged that a woman, with whom the victim was reportedly acquainted, called her friend to the flat and orchestrated the crime over a monetary dispute.

Shankar Naskar, the victim’s maternal uncle, said Mondal was left-handed, raising questions about the possibility of suicide since the gunshot wound was on the right side of his head.

A local businessman claimed Mondal had associations with multiple women and allegedly maintained links with betting and gambling circles.
A senior officer of Narendrapur Police Station said, “We have initiated an investigation based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family. Firearms and ammunition have been seized from the scene. The detained individuals are being interrogated.”

According to the woman’s statement to police, Mondal allegedly borrowed around Rs 30 lakh from her. She claimed that whenever she demanded repayment, Mondal would threaten to die by suicide and implicate her.

However, Lakshan Naskar, a relative of the deceased, said Mondal was not the kind of person to kill himself. He described the victim as a strong-willed and fightingminded individual. According to him, the death was a planned murder. He also mentioned that if the residents of the flat cooperate, the truth will come out.

Naskar further alleged that there should be evidence that the woman involved had received money from Mondal, and suggested that a delay in payment might have led to the incident. Her presence at the flat at that time, along with certain unusual behaviour, appears highly suspicious. He said proper interrogation by police would reveal the truth.

Police said a probe is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
