Bihar elections: Job promises, migration issue take centre stage as parties shift focus
Patna: In a state where electoral politics mainly revolves around caste-based equations, the issue of employment and migration have slowly started taking centre stage, with political parties keeping them on top of their agenda.
Leaders of both the ruling NDA and opposition Grand Alliance in Bihar are now promising jobs for youths, and in turn stop migration. Even their manifestos stress govt jobs.

The NDA manifesto , released on Friday, promised over one crore govt jobs and employment opportunities. This came four days after the Grand Alliance, led by its CM candidate Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, promised one govt job to each family.
Even rallies and election speeches now seem to be shifting towards jobs and employment. During his twin election rallies in Bihar on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised jobs to the youths within the state, saying it would stop migration.
A couple of days earlier, CM Nitish Kumar had taken to social media to pledge jobs and employment opportunities for one crore youths over the next five years. He wrote on X, “Providing employment to the youths will be the key focus of our govt next. We have decided that one crore youths will be provided jobs and employment opportunities, and we will ensure that the youths need not move out of the state in compulsion.”
In fact, Yadav, in all his rallies, had been promising govt jobs for each family if voted to power, along with setting up factories and industries for employment creation.
A political expert felt that once again opposition leader Yadav scored a point over his opponents by making employment an agenda. “Remember 2020, when he promised 10 lakh jobs, and later employment became a topic of discussion,” the expert said.
Economist D M Diwakar said the focus on jobs and migration marked a welcome change. “Jobs and migration have become an issue now, and this is a good beginning. Initially, various things were being discussed, be it infiltrators or other issues, now it seems all are talking about jobs and migration,” he said, adding that with focus on creating jobs and fulfilling vacancies in govt sectors, the public sector would be strengthened.
Political experts recalled how the 2020 assembly election also revolved around jobs and employment, after Tejashwi promised of ten lakh govt jobs.
