BJP–JD(S) gear up for joint protest as assembly session resumes
As the State Legislature session resumes on Tuesday, the BJP and JD(S) have decided to intensify their agitation against the state government, both inside and outside the Assembly, demanding the resignation of the Excise Minister.
The alliance parties have announced a joint protest in front of the Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha at 10.30 am, ahead of the commencement of the day’s proceedings.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok had raised the issue on Friday and sought permission to move an adjournment motion. While the Speaker allowed a discussion under Rule 69, the BJP demanded an immediate debate, leading to disruptions and the adjournment of the House.
The BJP–JD(S) alliance has now decided to continue the agitation until the minister resigns. The opposition plans to raise the issue again after the Question Hour.
Meanwhile, ruling party members have been protesting at Freedom Park and holding a Raj Bhavan Chalo march demanding the reimplementation of NREGA. In response, the opposition has accused ruling party members of insulting the Governor and has announced a counter-protest.
The protest will be led by BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra, Opposition Leader R. Ashok, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, JD(S) Legislature Party Leader Suresh Babu, S.L. Bhojegowda and others.
