While the cause of the death remains unclear, allegations and counter-allegations between the workers and the construction company have intensified tensions on the college campus located within the Sector 12 police station limits here.

Following the incident, the workers alleged that officials of the construction company hurriedly removed the body without informing others. The company, however, said the victim was taken to the hospital. According to the workers, the deceased was allegedly loaded onto the back of a pick-up van and taken out quietly through the rear gate, which further fuelled suspicion and outrage. The workers' camp and the site office are located within the medical college campus.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident and brought the situation under control. Led by Sector-12 police station in charge Subhash Kumar and Sector-4 police station in charge Sanjay Kumar, a police team conducted a march in the labour camp late at night to normalise the situation.

A contract worker, Surender Karmali, said, “The incident occurred when Singh returned to his room after work and reportedly fell ill. They claimed his limbs stiffened, and he lost consciousness, after which the contractor was informed. They came and took him silently from the back gate, which raises suspicions.”

However, KMV Constructions, the company managing the project, denied any wrongdoing. The HR manager of the firm, Kranthi Surineni, said, “Singh was not on duty that day. He has a job as an unskilled housekeeping worker under a contractor. He had consumed alcohol in the morning, fell ill in his room, and was promptly taken to the sadar hospital, where doctors declared him dead after an ECG examination. The company asserted that CCTV footage captured the entire sequence.”
