A breathtaking video capturing "majestic" Mount Everest from Jainagar, a small border town in Bihar's Madhubani district, has gone viral on social media. The snow-capped peaks, usually hidden from view, became visible due to unusually clear skies and clean air following recent heavy rainfall. For locals in Jainagar, catching a glimpse of the world's highest peak, located in neighbouring Nepal, was an extraordinary experience that left many awestruck.

"View of the majestic Himalayas as seen from Jainagar, Madhubani, Bihar," wrote the social media user Satyam Raj , who shared the mesmerizing footage.

Jainagar, situated on the banks of the Kamla River, is known for its scenic beauty, especially during sunrise and sunset when the Himalayan ranges appear to change hues. Online enthusiasts note that the best times to witness the distant mountains are from Vasant Panchami to Holi and again from Durga Puja to Kartik Purnima, when the air tends to be crisp and pollution levels are lower.

Interestingly, the Himalayan ranges were also visible in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, when air pollution dropped significantly across northern India.

Adding context, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Parveen Kaswan commented on the post, "For reference how Mt Everest's height was also observed from Muzaffarpur originally. With other places. For more read 'The Great Arch' by John Keay."

The video has sparked fascination and curiosity online. One user highlighted the sheer scale of Everest: "Mt Everest as seen in this video is 8.8km tall. That's REALLY tall. Think about this, planes fly around 8km to 10km height and what's more interesting is the fact that you enter space at 100km height."

Others expressed amazement at the clarity of the view. "Rare sight these days! The Himalayas are always there, but pollution usually hides them," wrote one user, while another commented, "Wow, thanks for sharing! Had no idea you can see the Himalayas from Bihar?"

For the residents of Jainagar, this rare natural spectacle has become a source of pride and excitement, reminding everyone of the extraordinary beauty that lies just beyond the horizon.
