Burglars arrested with Rs 35L booty in Odisha's Berhampur
Berhampur : Police on Saturday arrested three burglars and recovered looted property worth over Rs 35 lakh from them. The accused have allegedly been involved in at least five cases — two in Berhampur town and three in Nimakhandi police stations, respectively.
The accused were identified as kingpin Chintu Sethy (28) of Laxmi Nagar, Deepak Kumar Pattanaik (33) of Laxmi Bihar and Akash Kumar Behera (32) of Chandramapeta Sahi in Berhampur. “Cash of over Rs 8.5 lakh, gold and silver ornaments weighing 182.16 gm and 296 gm, respectively, a two-wheeler, a cutter and a rod — a bag containing items worth a total of over Rs 35 lakh was seized from the two accused,” said SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.

On verification of CCTV footage, police identified the accused, police said. The accused were allegedly involved in at least five burglary cases with the last being registered at Nimakhandi police station in Lochapada area on Dec 28, 2025, police said.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Investigation revealed that the trio had jointly committed the burglary, targeting the locked house and breaking open the lock.
Sethy said he along with his associates used to roam around the city and its fringes in late-night hours and identify locked houses. Thereafter, they would break open locks to loot gold, silver, cash and other valuables, police said.
Cops also said they have investigated if any other persons were involved in the gang.
