Caught On Camera: Woman Assaulted by Instagram Acquaintance After Rejecting Relationship
Bengaluru police have arrested a man for allegedly harassing and physically assaulting a woman in broad daylight near her Paying Guest (PG) accommodation in Ullal, highlighting growing concerns over online harassment turning into real-world violence.
According to police officials, the accused first came in contact with the woman through Instagram. What began as casual online conversations soon escalated into repeated pressure for a personal relationship. Despite the woman clearly rejecting his advances, the man allegedly continued to pursue and harass her.
The victim stated in her complaint that she has been staying at Shri Sai Baba Ladies PG in Ullal for the past six months. She was earlier employed as a telecaller with Dhatri Developers in Nagarabhavi and had shared promotional posts related to her work on Instagram on September 30, 2024. It was through these posts that she came in contact with the accused, Naveen Kumar, a resident of Bilya Maranahalli in Yelahanka.
As per the FIR, the online friendship soon turned into frequent meetings in Nagarabhavi. Over time, the accused allegedly became insistent about entering into a relationship. When the woman refused, he is accused of following her, repeatedly turning up near her PG accommodation, and harassing her despite her objections.
The situation escalated on December 22, 2025, at around 3.20 pm. When the woman stepped out of her PG, the accused allegedly attacked her, hitting her on the head, back, and neck. The complaint further stated that he attempted to tear her clothes during the assault. The incident occurred in broad daylight, sending shockwaves among residents in the area.
The woman immediately alerted the police. However, by the time officers reached the spot, the accused had fled. Police launched a manhunt, collected details from witnesses, and reviewed nearby CCTV footage, which eventually led to the accused’s arrest.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the case, and further legal action is underway. Police said the investigation is continuing, and strict action will be taken against the accused to ensure the safety of women in the city.
