According to police, one of the drivers had to be cut free from the mangled cabin. The victims included both truck drivers and a passenger travelling in one of the trucks, with two of the deceased reportedly in the same vehicle.

The collision caused traffic on the busy highway to come to a complete halt, creating long queues in both directions. Police said it took about four hours to clear the wreckage and reopen the road.
