Choudhary took charge of the WRD on Thursday after his elevation to the post of deputy CM in the new govt formed with Samrat Choudhary as the CM on Wednesday. The department’s principal secretary Santosh Kumar Mall welcomed him with a bouquet.

After assuming charge, Choudhary directed engineers and officers to put in place effective arrangements for speedy implementation of schemes and projects and ensure their timely completion without compromising on quality. He stressed the need for transparency, eradication of corruption and introduction of an improved work culture so the department could contribute to the state’s overall development.

Later, the WRD principal secretary, along with three engineers-in-chief responsible for flood control, headquarters and addition to irrigation potential, held a state-level review meeting through video conferencing on the progress of work.

All 21 chief engineers, 71 superintending engineers and 220 executive engineers posted in the field participated in the review. Mall informed them about the concerns of the CM and deputy CM.

He also asked all engineers, from junior to assistant engineers and others, to submit within three days their suggestions on improving work culture and ways to effectively execute schemes and programmes. Mall also asked them to undertake self-assessment for improvement.

He said their suggestions, to be submitted to the headquarters through email or in writing, would be used to prepare a broad policy framework for an improved work culture needed for effective implementation of the schemes.
