Coronation Street fans 'work out' villain could return to ITV soap after 'telling clue'
Coronation Street fans have expressed doubt about a recent departure from Weatherfield, reacting to the actor's farewell post with disbelief. This follows the unexpected exit of another cherished character. The popular ITV soap recently saw Becky Swain (portrayed by Amy Cudden) leave after her unsuccessful attempts to win back her ex-partner Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), despite Lisa having moved on with Carla Connor (Alison King).
This came after Becky's surprising return to Lisa's life in September. Becky's sudden appearance, just days after Lisa and her new partner, Carla Connor, got engaged and on her and Lisa's daughter, Betsy's 18th birthday, shocked her family, who had been led to believe she had died in the line of duty. Becky succeeded in creating a rift between the newly engaged couple, leading to heartbreaking scenes as Carla ended her relationship with Lisa.
In a dramatic turn of events, Becky kidnapped Carla, who was planning a Spanish getaway, holding her captive in a flat. Unbeknownst to Carla, she had been given the location details during a hospital visit to Lisa's boss, DI Costello.
Luckily, these details were shared with Kit and weeks after Carla failed to show up at her intended Spanish hotel, the detective constable found her in a shipping container where Becky had moved her.
The pair then chased Becky, who was heading to Hull with Lisa and Betsy, preparing to leave for Rotterdam, according to the Manchester Evening News.
However, they hadn't bargained on finding the trio embroiled in a horrifying pile-up, prompting Carla and Kit to spring into action to save Betsy and Lisa. In a gratifying turn for audiences, Lisa, despite her wounds, shifted into detective gear and nabbed Becky.
Days later, in last week's Corrie instalments, Lisa discovered Becky had been handed a 12-year stretch, with her own involvement kept under wraps. DI Thompson told Lisa: "She got 12 years. And as far as I know, your name wasn't mentioned, which I guess is the good news.
"And the not-so-good news, you're being placed on restricted duties while there's an internal investigation. We both know that could have been a lot worse. Listen, from what I hear, you're a good cop. Keep your head down and soon you'll be able to put this whole chapter behind you."
Yet, despite Lisa reassuring Betsy that Becky was gone for good, some Corrie fans aren't convinced, especially after Amy Cudden's farewell message about leaving her divisive character resurfaced.
One viewer pondered: "Anyone else feel Becky's ending gave a 'we will circle back to this later' but first let's fix Swarla vibe or is that just me? It was a bit to abrupt for my liking...Amy, your 'Cuddle your bye-bye' post was lovely, but I don't believe you. #Corrie."
One viewer commented: "I don't think we have heard the last of her. Just felt the story was rushed."
Another speculated: "I have a gut feeling we have not heard the last of Becky. She is behind bars...for now. Her SL feels incomplete and open to a return. I hope not though kudos to Amy Cudden, for her brilliant portrayal of villainous Becky #Corrie #Swarla." A fan added: "Nope not the last we've heard of bent Becky I'm sure of it."
