Coronation Street murder flash forward was underwhelming for one key reason

Coronation Street have finally revealed which Weatherfield residents could potentially meet their maker after being murdered on the ITV soap - and to say it is underwhelming is an understatement. Back in January show boss Kate Brooks teased the dramatic scene which sees five people earmarked as the possible victim whose identity will be revealed on April 23. In a flash forward scene which opened the latest episode which aired on Monday February 16, Betsy Swain (played by Sydney Martin) tearfully recounts finding the body.

Throughout the episode viewers were shown five possible characters that will end up in the morgue - and it was the most predictable thing I have ever seen. If you haven't watched look away as spoilers incoming. All five are much loathed characters who are recent additions to the cast. Not one of them will be a loss to the show unlike a legacy or long running character.

Megan Walsh (played by Beth Nixon) only joined the show at the beginning of November as teenager Will Driscoll's athletics coach and she is also having an illicit fling with him after grooming the teen. Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) joined in March 2025 as a love interest for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). However he quickly began abusing the popular undertaker and fans have been begging for him to go for months.

Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn), who first appeared in October 2025 is probably the most popular of the five but even she is a despicable character who is letting an innocent man rot in jail for assaulting Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) in order to protect the true attacker, her grandson Will.

Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) is the most recent addition to the cast having first appeared on the soap in Janaury 5 in the CorrieDale special. The sister of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) she hasn't done anything truly awful yet but is definitely jealous of her sister's life and fans haven't warmed to her.

Finally Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) has proved nothing but trouble since his arrival in April 2025. He broke up Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and wife Abi's (Sally Carman) marriage and his sister/mother Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is currently in jail having taken the rap for his dangerous driving.

The flash forward is the same concept used by EastEnders in February 2023 when they showed a death at Sharon Watts (Leitita Dean's) wedding. The scene teased the Christmas 2023 storyline, showing "The Six" standing over a dead body in the Queen Vic. The storyline culminated with the reveal on Christmas Day that year.

The big difference was that people actually cared about many of the people in the mix with producers teasing the likes of long running characters such as Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) much to fans outrage. They also added an obvious option in the shape of the abusive Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry). This turned out to be a huge curveball as the actual victim turned out to be Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

Had Corrie thrown a Ken Barlow or a Bernie Winters into the mix then fans might actually care but by making all five possibilities unpopular characters who won't be missed, viewers have no reason to be invested.

The victim will be revealed on April 23 when they are murdered the day of Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain's (Vicky Myers) wedding. But I'm already not bothered about it.
