As relentless rainfall submerged roads and paralysed traffic in Gurugram, a video went viral showing corporate employees hiring a Porter mini truck to get home. The unusual commute highlighted the chaos of waterlogged streets and failures of ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber. Heavy downpours have once again exposed the infrastructure woes of Gurugram, leaving the city gridlocked and commuters stranded. While traffic snarls and waterlogged streets have become a familiar sight during the monsoon season, a recent video has captured the extraordinary measures residents are taking to get home. A now-viral clip shows a group of corporate employees, dressed in their formal attire, riding in the back of a mini-truck to navigate the submerged roads, a testament to the city's transport chaos.

Corporate ‘Majdoors’ Turn to Porter Mini Truck

With Ola, Uber, and Rapido either unavailable or charging surge prices as high as ₹1,900, desperate office-goers turned to an unusual solution: a rented Porter mini truck. The viral clip shows men and women in formal clothes standing in the truck’s bed, clinging to the roof as the vehicle carefully navigated submerged roads.
One user reacted, “Corporate mazdoor term just turned real,” while another commented, “Gurugram’s new startup idea: TruckPool – Upgrade from carpool, downgrade in comfort.”

Social Media Reactions

The video quickly caught traction online, drawing sharp reactions from netizens.

  • A user wrote, “The citizens of this country work hard, it doesn’t matter if they pay tax directly or indirectly. Everyone pays their dues in some form or the other & look at the state of this country. Unbelievable.”
  • Another suggested humorously, “It’s time Ola/Uber/Rapido etc, include motor boat services or cable car services in their itinerary, maybe take it as a business proposition, think about it floks…. we are waiting.”
  • A third user remarked, “this service better than failed public transport n waterlogged roads. it is a city of corporate majdoor . needs to be renamed.”

Rain Havoc in Delhi-NCR

The torrential rain, which began on Monday and continued into Tuesday, left Gurugram one of the worst-hit areas in Delhi-NCR. Many commuters reported being stranded for hours, while some booked hotel rooms to avoid gridlocked roads. Normally, a ride from Sector 62, Gurugram to Ballabhagarh costs around ₹470, but surge pricing saw fares between ₹1,100 and ₹1,900.
As of now, Gurugram remains under an orange alert, with warnings of continued rainfall.
