Couple Trolled for Groom’s Skin Colour, His Powerful Reply Wins the Internet

An 11-year love story from Madhya Pradesh turned bittersweet when newlyweds Rishabh Rajput and Shonali Chouksey found themselves targeted by online trolls. Their wedding photos and videos, filled with joy and vibrant colours, unexpectedly landed on the harsher side of social media.
Hero Image

The couple’s pictures Rishabh in a sherwani with a bright pink shawl and safa, and Shonali in a magenta lehenga quickly went viral. One image, showing them exchanging rose garlands, captured pure happiness. Yet the internet chose to fixate on one thing: the groom’s dark skin tone.

A user on X shared their photo with the question, "What is the core reason behind these types of marriages?" sparking unwarranted commentary. As the post crossed three million views, trolling intensified.

Comments flooded in:

"Bank balance matter karta hai," one user wrote, implying Shonali married for money.

Another mocked, "Didi, aisi bhi kya majboori thi?"

Some even claimed she chose him for a government job a rumour Rishabh later clarified as false.

Others sniped, "May be love marriage or miracle of makeup."

However, alongside the negativity came a strong wave of support from people calling out the colour-shaming.

Shonali remained unshaken. Speaking to HT.com, she said their long-distance relationship had finally come to an end, adding, “Ab woh doori khatam hui. Humein farq nahi padta log kya keh re hai. Hum is viral movement ko bhi enjoy kar rhe hai (Now we don't have that distance. What people say doesn't bother us. We are enjoying this viral moment.),”

Groom Breaks His Silence

Rishabh responded firmly yet gracefully. He wrote that the moment he married Shonali was something he had been waiting for since 2014.

"I waited for this very moment for almost 11 years," he shared, adding that he struggled to hold back tears when he saw her as a bride.

Addressing the rumours, he clarified, "Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not a government employee but I work for my family and wish to give them a decent lifestyle. I do have a handsome income though, but she loved me when I had nothing and she stood there having my back since my college days in my thin and thick, blues and greys... so your opinion doesn't really matter," he said in a powerfully worded note. Thanking those who supported him, Rishabh said he has faced discrimination all his life because of his skin colour.

He also acknowledged the lifelong discrimination he has faced, writing, "I cannot deny the fact that I'm black and I have dealt with the racism my entire life."

Despite the hurtful comments, Rishabh and Shonali continue to enjoy their moment, choosing love and resilience over negativity a reminder that true relationships aren’t defined by appearance but by years of trust, loyalty and shared journeys.
