Cultural festivities come alive in Dhubri with Dol & Vasant Utsav
Dhubri : Dol Utsav was celebrated over two days at the 500-year-old Ramraikuti Satra at Satrasal, while Vasanta Utsav was observed by Nirityangan in Dhubri district with a day-long programme on Tuesday.
The Ramraikuti Satra, located along the India-Bangladesh international border in Dhubri, has a historical significance as the site where the marriage of Coochbehar’s Koch dynasty’s commander-in-chief Chilarai (Shuklyadwaj) and Bhubaneshwari Devi, the niece of Srimanta Sankardev, was solemnised. Chilarai later founded the Satra in the name of his younger brother, Ramrai.

On the other hand, the seventh Vasanta Utsav was organised by Nrityangan, a socio- cultural organisation, at Rajiv Gandhi Children’s Park in Dhubri. A colourful procession of all communities’ cultural troupes was flagged off by Assam IGP (border) Debajyoti Mukherjee at Dhubri Kalibari. Speaking at the cultural event, Mukherjee praised the initiative of Nrityangan to keep the tradition alive with its essential elements of devotion and culture.
The convenor of the Vasanta Utsav 2026, Dipankar Majumder, said he has been making efforts to save the tradition of this festivity associated with the advent of Spring.

Every year, Dol Utsav is celebrated here with a chariot made of various mettles taken out with an idol of Lord Krishna sitting inside and rituals performed according to Vaishnavism tradition. Satradhikar of Ramraikuti Satra Jitendra Nath Pradhani told TOI that the rituals and programmes were performed by devotees coming from different parts of Dhubri with ‘gayan’ and ‘bayan’ (devotional singers and drummers). “Devotees took part in the two-day rituals which began on Tuesday and concluded this evening,” he said.
