DA probe: Ex-SDPO spent big on maid, helped her build house
Patna: In a fresh twist to the disproportionate assets probe against former SDPO Gautam Kumar , investigators have found that he allegedly spent large sums of money on his maid, Paro alias Puja, with whom he is suspected to have had an extramarital relationship . He also reportedly helped build a house for her.
Meanwhile, a three-member Economic Offences Unit (EOU) team arrived in Kishanganj on Saturday and began investigations at multiple locations linked to Kumar, including the District Transport Office (DTO). The team examined vehicle registration, purchase and sale documents of vehicles owned by Kumar and his family members to verify the source of funds against their declared income.

The action comes four days after the EOU of Bihar Police on Tuesday raided six premises of Kumar in Kishanganj, Purnia, Patna and Siliguri. Investigators recovered documents of around 25 plots of land, a four-storey Purnia house (estimated at Rs2.5 crore), luxury vehicles, watches, gold jewellery worth Rs60 lakh from his girlfriend’s residence, jewellery and cash of Rs1.37 lakh from his residence and other investments.
In the course of investigation, it also came to light that he spent a large sum of money on his maid, Paro alias Puja. According to sources, he had an alleged extramarital relationship with her and he also helped build her a house.
Nayyar Hasnain Khan, ADG of EOU, said: “A team led by the investigating officer, Indra Prakash, ASP of EOU, has gone to Kishanganj for investigation. Further investigation and verification is underway to uncover more disproportionate assets. Kumar’s ‘benami’ investment is spread in other states, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh as well as in Nepal. Things will be clear in the next couple of days.”
The officers said Kumar owned three SUVs, in the names of his mother-in-law, liquor mafia Sanjay Singh and his driver. They also suspect that the hotel owned by Singh was also being built by the former SDPO, where he often conducted meetings.
