Delhi Metro Launches Priority Frisking for Special Category Passengers

In a move aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusivity , the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday introduced a priority frisking initiative for special category passengers . The facility is now available for individuals such as specially-abled persons, pregnant women, women traveling with infants, senior citizens, and those who are injured.

“The objective of this initiative is to provide a smooth and hassle-free travel experience for these passengers, ensuring they can move through security checks with ease and convenience,” said Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, DMRC.

By implementing this system, DMRC aims to reaffirm its commitment to making the metro more accessible, empathetic, and inclusive. “DMRC has always prioritised accessibility for divyangs and senior citizens by providing end-to-end services across the metro system, including reserved seating,” Dayal added.

To prevent misuse of the facility, security personnel may request supporting documents from passengers in cases where eligibility is unclear or disputed.

The DMRC is working closely with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other security agencies to ensure effective implementation. “DMRC is coordinating with CISF and security staff to issue the necessary guidelines and ensure a seamless experience for special category passengers,” said Dayal.

He also noted that all DMRC stations are designed to be commuter-friendly, with features such as tactile paths, wheelchairs, and other support systems to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all.

“With this step, DMRC continues to set an example for public transportation systems across the country by reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility,” Dayal concluded.

The Delhi Metro, spanning nearly 400 kilometers, is the second-oldest and longest metro network in India.
