Diesel and Petrol Supply to Be Restricted for These People as Government Issues Notification

The Delhi government has announced another strict step to tackle the capital’s worsening air pollution . In a major move, vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate or those with an expired one will no longer be supplied petrol or diesel. The decision was confirmed by Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

The minister said the measure is part of a broader crackdown to reduce vehicular emissions, one of the biggest contributors to Delhi’s toxic air. Along with denying fuel, vehicles found violating PUC norms will also face fines. In an even tougher stance, non-BS6 vehicles entering Delhi from outside the city will be seized.

The decision comes amid the implementation of GRAP-4 (Graded Response Action Plan), which kicks in when pollution levels turn severe. Under GRAP-4, construction activities have been completely halted, the transport of construction materials such as sand and gravel has been banned, and the use of diesel generator sets has also been prohibited.

Delhi’s air quality has sharply deteriorated since Diwali. On December 14, the city’s average Air Quality Index crossed 400, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. Several areas reported AQI levels between 500 and 600, making the air extremely hazardous to breathe.

As pollution continues to choke the capital, public anger is also growing. Many residents have criticised the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government, accusing it of failing to control pollution despite repeated measures. With this latest fuel restriction, authorities hope to push vehicle owners toward compliance and offer some relief to a city struggling for clean air.
