DMs asked to form teams against touts in government hospitals

Patna: The state health department asked the district magistrates to form teams to catch hold of people involved in luring patients from govt health institutes to private ones.

The health department has received complaints that some touts camped on the campus of govt health institutes and tried to lure patients and their attendants to private clinics, promising better treatment. They even lured patients to get medical tests done at private labs or to buy medicines from particular shops outside the campus.

The health department, in a letter to all the DMs, mentioned that it received complaints that such activities were going on at govt health centres. The department instructed strict action against people involved in this network.

“The department is getting information that people coming for treatment on the campus of govt institutes are being misled by the staff of private hospitals for treatment, tests, X-rays, and for procuring medicines. Legal action should be initiated against such people involved for depriving common men of availing govt health services and welfare schemes . Even the govt staff involved in this nexus should be identified and action taken against them,” read a part of the letter issued by health secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh to all the DMs.

Singh then instructed all the DMs to form teams and carry out regular inspections of the health institutes. He asked the DMs to depute a nodal officer at district-level and inform the department about it, along with appraising it with the action taken report (ATR). Additional secretary of the health department, Dhannajay Kumar, was made the nodal officer at the state-level.
