Dubai explosions: Airport and Creek Harbour attacked by Iran - BA flights cancelled

Security fears have intensified in Dubai after two drones reportedly launched from Iran fell near Dubai International Airport yesterday, injuring four people and forcing a temporary airspace closure. Normal air traffic has since resumed.

Authorities were also deployed to the Dubai Creek Harbour area late on Wednesday after a separate drone struck a building and sparked a fire. The Dubai Media Office said emergency teams responded to the incident in the waterfront district, where residents were evacuated as a precaution. Officials later confirmed the blaze was quickly brought under control and that no injuries were reported. British Airways has cancelled flights to and from Dubai and reduced its Middle East schedule due to ongoing security concerns and airspace instability. Security concerns also spread across the financial sector, with staff at several bank branches - including employees at Citi's regional headquarters - reportedly told to leave their offices. The developments followed fresh threats from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, warning it could target economic and banking centres linked to the US and Israel. Officials at the Dubai International Financial Centre later sought to calm fears, saying reports that Index Tower and ICD Brookfield Place had been evacuated were inaccurate and that businesses were continuing to operate under continuity plans and official guidance.
