Frenchay LIVE: Bristol chaos as bomb disposal unit swarm area and evacuate residents
Armed police and bomb disposal experts have swarmed a quiet street in Bristol this morning (Sunday) forcing residents to evacuate. Up to 70 people have been ordered from homes on Bradeston Grove and Sterncourt Road in the Frenchay area of the city after reports of a loud "bang" noise around 6.30am.
Officers are advising people to stay away from the area and pictures from the scene show a heavy police presence. A bomb disposal unit vehicle is at the scene, with road closures in place. One resident said he had been told it was "dangerous" to stay in his home and was advised to move to the local Harvester pub.
A statement from Avon and Somerset Police on X said: "A cordon is in place as emergency services respond to reports of an incident at a house near Frenchay. People from a number of properties in Sterncourt Road are being evacuated as a precaution."We'd ask people to avoid the area at this time."
A later update added: "Emergency services remain at the scene and are working together in response to this incident.
"Residents who are being evacuated have been taken to a temporary rest centre nearby.
