Poundland is set to shut seven stores across the UK this month as part of its major restructuring plan. A total of six stores have shut already with one more due to close its doors for good on Monday (February 16).

The budget retailer narrowly avoided administration last August after securing a court-approved restructuring plan. It was sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1 in June who created a plan to close stores across the nation to avoid total collapse. The company initially planned to shut 68 shops but this figure topped 100 by early 2026.

As reported by The Sun, one store in Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, was due to shut but has been saved. A new reopening date has been confirmed for the shop.

However, there are fears more shops could be at risk across the UK. These include branches in Oxfordshire, consisting of Didcot, Oxford, Abingdon, Witney, Bicester and Banbury.

A Poundland spokesman said: "When we provided details about our restructuring and recovery plan, we did confirm that we expect to operate a network of 650 to 700 stores in time, compared to 800 today. Where we can, we're combining locations where we have two stores into one."

There have been widespread financial challenges and pressures across the retail industry in recent years. Several companies have had to close stores in a blow to high streets across the country.

Poundland has struggled due to increased budget offerings from rival brands such as B&M, Home Bargains and Aldi. However, the brand insists it remains committed to giving customers popular bargains.
