HC summons DGP, SP in Bokaro murder case
Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Wednesday summoned the DGP, Bokaro superintendent of police (SP), forensic science laboratory director, and the special investigating team (SIT) to appear on April 16 in connection with the recovery of skeletal remains in the case of a missing girl from Bokaro.
A division bench comprising Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Sanjay Prasad was informed by counsel for the petitioner, Rekha Devi, that the skeletal remains recovered by Bokaro police is not of her 18-year-old daughter Pushpa Mahto , who went missing in July 2025.

The court asked the state govt whether a DNA test had been conducted and expressed concern that, despite the skeleton being recovered a couple of days ago, no samples had been collected for DNA analysis. The judges observed that had the samples been collected earlier, results could have been obtained within a few hours, but the process was being unnecessarily delayed.
The court was also informed that one Dinesh Mahto has been arrested in connection with the case, and that the skeletal remains were recovered from a jungle area in Bokaro. Meanwhile, the Bokaro SP has suspended 28 police personnel of Pindrajora police station , for alleged negligence in duty.
Rekha Devi’s daughter has been missing since July 31, 2025. An FIR was registered at Pindrajora police station, but with no significant progress in tracing her whereabouts, Rekha Devi approached the high court. Following the court’s intervention, the police intensified their investigation.
