High Court awards death sentence to two in Rohtas murder case
Patna: The Patna high court awarded death penalty to two persons, who along with their father, had brutally killed their three distant cousins using sharp weapons in Rohtas district five years ago.
A division bench, comprising Justices Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Sourendra Pandey, upheld the death penalty given by Additional Session Judge (ASJ) of Rohtas to two convicts—Aman Singh and his brother Sonal Singh—on May 9, 2024.

The verdict of the high court was uploaded on its websites on Jan 22.
While upholding the decision of Rohtas court, the two judges cited the moral of Mahabharata and remarked that perpetrators of crime like Kauravas meet tragic end as divine punishment for their “adharma” (sin).
The court observed that the gravity of crime committed by convicts was such that it left a family devoid of any male members. “It was not merely murder of three persons, but lives of three women, who became widow by the crime, were devastated,” the two judges observed and found it a fit case for sending the perpetrators to the gallows.
According to the case, On July 13, 2021, Aman, Sonal and their father Ajay Singh made fatally attacked their distant cousins, Vijay Singh and his two sons Deepak Singh and Rakesh Singh, through sword and other sharp weapons in Khudrao village Darihat police station area of Rohtas district.
Vijay and his two sons succumbed to their injuries after which an FIR was registered in Darihat police station (case no. 111/2021).
During the police investigation, accused Ajay Singh became a fugitive hence police arrested Aman and Sonal and sent them to the jail to face trial on the charges of murder. On May 4, 2024 the trial court of ASJ-19, Rohtas found both the culprits guilty of the murder.
