I tried Chicago Town's new high protein pizza and 1 thing surprised me
Chicago Town remains one of my go-to choices when I'm after a quick pizza without spending heavily on a takeaway. The fact they're consistently stocked and frequently discounted at Iceland or The Food Warehouse makes them even more appealing.
Whilst browsing the aisles at my local Food Warehouse, I spotted a new snack-sized offering from the brand for just £1.25, which immediately found its way into my trolley.
Chicago Town delivers that dependable quality you can count on - a pizza featuring an excellent base complemented by a perfectly balanced tomato sauce that avoids being overly sweet.
The new Rapid Slices are available in two varieties, cheese and ham and beef kebab, typically retailing at £2.50 each.
However, they've been reduced to a lower price point over recent weeks.
My main motivation for purchasing the pizza stems from currently monitoring my calorie intake whilst prioritising protein-rich options to keep me fuller through the day.
The cheese and ham variant contains 19g of protein and 340 calories overall, making it ideal for lunch when you haven't meal-prepped or simply can't face cooking.
Following 14 minutes in my air fryer, the pizza emerged with crispy edges and a molten centre where all the cheese, including some mozzarella, had beautifully melted.
After allowing it to cool - given that the sauce from Chicago Town Pizza's is reputedly hotter than the sun's surface - I sampled a bite and was pleasantly surprised by the delectable pizza base.
It was unlike any I'd previously experienced from the brand, being thick, crispy yet still doughy and soft in the centre - it was delightful.
My only gripe with the pizza was the scant amount of ham on the slice I tasted - primarily due to how scrumptious the pizza was when you did encounter a piece of it.
But then again, at £1.25, can I truly grumble? I think not.
On the whole, I'd award it a solid 8/10 and consider it the ideal snack or lunch complemented by some salad or vegetables.
