I tried Waitrose's £15 almond croissant Easter egg - it reminded me of something else
With Easter fast approaching and the weather brightening up it's certainly a happy time of year - and novelty chocolate items are also at the forefront of many people's minds. Customers, including myself, are eagerly checking out what's new and delicious for Easter 2026 and there is an array of sweet treats to be enjoyed, including a popular new Waitrose addition.
I've tried Waitrose's No.1 The Blonde Almond Croissant Egg and it's a decadent delight, the first thing I noticed when I unwrapped it was the weight of it, it's heavy. Then I smelt the sweet almond-tinged chocolate tones - and before I'd even bitten into the croissant I was pretty sure I was going to enjoy this. This Croissant Egg is made of thick blond-coloured chocolate with some crunchy almond nuts, almond paste and feuilletine wafer worked into the sweet treat.
Once I eagerly bit into the supermarket's decadent chocolate treat, it reminded me of a luxurious Caramac bar, yet also had its own delicious, unique flavours.
I cracked it open on a plate, which took some force, and was immediately thrilled to notice that the hollow chocolate croissant was 1cm thick in the middle.
On the Waitrose website, the Chocolate Almond Croissant is described as "hollow white chocolate with caramelised sugar, with feuilletine wafer, almond paste and chopped roasted almonds, decorated with milk chocolate, chopped roasted almonds and white chocolate powder."
The supermarket's website added that this is the ultimate "grown-up Easter treat, beautifully made in luxuriously creamy blonde chocolate", what's more, it's made with Fairtrade sourced cocoa.
Priced at £15.00, but currently on offer for £12 (at the time of writing) the luxurious chocolate treat weighs in at 275g - and the delicious unique take on an egg has been popping up across my social media.
The Chocolate Almond Croissant has all the unique excitement of cracking into an Easter egg, but stands out as being especially exciting due to its croissant shape.
I think it's different, inventive and the chocolate is out of this world in my opinion, not white, not milk, but blond - and the slight crunch of the wafer along with the chomp of the chopped almonds means lots of pleasant texture too.
Customer demand for Easter eggs started earlier than ever this year, according to Waitrose, the supermarket explained that online searches for "Easter" and "Easter Eggs" were "already up 34% and 68% respectively, in February 2026, when compared to 2025.
Waitrose is "elevating last year's viral chocolate croissant sensation" by leveraging the trending flavour of almond - to create this brand new No.1 The Blonde Almond Croissant Egg.
Following on from the croissant theme, Waitrose has also released new No.1 6 Mini Blonde Chocolate Croissants, made with rich blonde choc and a silky ganache centre, these mini croissants "add a little ooh la la to Easter".
Sarah Breadmore, Easter Egg Product Developer at Waitrose, says: "This year we really wanted to offer our customers those egg-stra options that make you go 'wow'.
"We've leveraged the food trends that we know our customers love, to elevate our seasonal product range for 2026.
"Our brand new No.1 The Blonde Chocolate Almond Croissant builds on our viral egg from last year, and takes it to a whole new level.
"Made with luxuriously creamy blonde chocolate and crunchy almond pieces, this egg is then hand decorated with milk chocolate and roasted almond pieces. It is so good, you're not going to want to share."
