IIC arrested for taking Rs 20k bribe

Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Sukma Hansdah, the IIC of Dasmantpur police station in Koraput district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 to submit a case diary in court.

Official sources said the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a relative of an accused in a case registered at the police station. Based on the complaint, a trap was laid and Hansdah was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount inside the police station. The tainted cash was recovered from her possession and seized.

The IIC had demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant to produce the case diary before the court, which was required for consideration of bail. Following the complaint, a case was registered and the IIC was arrested, said SP (Vigilance) Rabindra Kumar Panda.

After the trap, vigilance teams carried out simultaneous searches at two locations linked to Hansdah from a disproportionate assets angle. More details regarding the disproportionate assets would be known once we complete our investigation, the SP said.
