IndiGo flight cancellations: Southern Railway to run special trains from Chennai, Coimbatore and other cities
COIMBATORE: Southern Railway will operate special trains and temporarily add additional coaches to select trains to support passengers affected by IndiGo flight cancellations.
According to a release, Nos 06024/06023 Coimbatore – Dr MGR Chennai Central – Coimbatore Express specials will run on Dec 7 and 8 via Tirupur, Erode and Salem.

Nos 06108/06107 Thiruvananthapuram North – Chennai Egmore -Thiruvananthapuram North Express specials will run on Dec 7 and 8 via Podanur, Tirupur, Erode and Salem.
Nos 06012/06011 Nagercoil – Tambaram – Nagercoil superfast specials will be operated on Dec 7 and 8 via Madurai, Dindigul and Trichy.
According to a press release from the railway ministry, 37 trains have been augmented with 116 additional coaches, operating more than 114 augmented trips across the country. Additional chair cars and sleeper class coaches have been deployed on high-demand routes. The temporary addition of coaches came into effect from Saturday. It will be effective till Dec 10 in case of most trains. A few trains will have these additional coaches till Dec 12.
Accordingly, Southern Railway will add one AC three-tier coach each to No.12696-Thiruvananthapuram Central-Dr MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express and No. 22157 Mumbai CST-Chennai Beach Superfast Express on Sunday on Dec 7. No 20481Jodhpur-Tiruchirappalli Humsafar Express will get an additional AC three-tier coach on Dec 10.
No. 12243 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Coimbatore Shatabdi Express that begins its journey on Dec 7 will be temporarily provided with one additional chair car coach. No. 12244 Coimbatore - Dr MGR Chennai Central Shatabdi Express will also have an additional chair car coach.
No. 22154 Salem - Chennai Egmore Express, No. 22650 Erode Dr MGR Chennai Central Yercaud Superfast Express and No 22640 Alappuzha Dr MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express that commence their journeys on Dec 7 will be augmented with one additional sleeper class coach each.
