Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo sworn in as Chief Justice of Patna high court
Patna: Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa high court was on Wednesday sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Patna high court .
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office to Justice Sahoo, who is the 47th to hold the post, at a function held at the Lok Bhavan here.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by CM Nitish Kumar, Bihar assembly speaker Prem Kumar, Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha, Parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Choudhary, rural works minister Ashok Kumar Choudhary, judges of the Patna high court, and several other dignitaries.

The Union law ministry formally notified the appointment of Justice Sahoo as the Chief Justice of the Patna high court on Jan 1, following approval from the President.
The Supreme Court Collegium , during its meeting held on Dec 18, 2025, recommended Justice Sahoo’s name as the new Chief Justice of the Patna high court.
Justice Sahoo has had a distinguished legal career. Born in 1964, he completed his matriculation from Nuabazar High School, Cuttack, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Stewart Science College. He later obtained a Master’s degree in English and Odia from Utkal University.
Law and justice run deep in his family. Justice Sahoo was mentored by his father, Sarat Chandra Sahoo, a renowned criminal law expert, from whom he gained an in-depth understanding of legal principles.
After enrolling as an advocate with the Odisha State Bar Council on Nov 26, 1989, he also worked closely with Manoranjan Panda, a constitutional expert.
Known for his expertise in criminal law, Justice Sahoo built a strong reputation at the bar.
Recognising his merit and legal acumen, he was appointed as a judge of the Odisha high court on July 2, 2014.
