Karnataka Man Allegedly Shaves Wife’s Head After Suspecting Affair, Woman Hospitalised

In a disturbing incident from Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka, a 30-year-old woman was left injured after her husband allegedly shaved her head with a blade amid suspicions that she was involved in an extramarital affair. The incident took place at their home in the village of Kaginelli early on a Monday morning, according to police.

The woman told investigators that she was sleeping inside her house when her husband, identified locally as Raveendra, entered the room and forcibly cut off her hair while she resisted. The sudden assault left her with painful injuries on her scalp, and family members immediately took her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medics treated her wounds and advised she be monitored for possible infection and shock, given the sensitive nature of the injury.

Neighbours said the couple’s relationship had been strained in recent months, with frequent arguments over trust and communication issues. On the day of the incident, Raveendra reportedly accused his wife of having an affair, though there was no concrete evidence supporting his belief. Witnesses said the dispute escalated quickly inside the home, culminating in the alleged attack.

Police officers from the local station responded after the woman’s family filed a complaint against the husband. A first information report was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with voluntarily causing hurt and outraging the modesty of a woman, given that cutting a woman’s hair without her consent can be considered an act of violence and humiliation. Investigators are also exploring whether additional charges related to domestic violence should be applied.

In her statement to police, the woman denied any inappropriate relationship outside her marriage, saying her husband’s claims were unfounded. Family members supported her version of events, emphasising that there was no basis for the husband’s suspicions and calling for strict action against the alleged offence.

The accused husband, after being taken into custody for questioning, reportedly maintained that he acted out of jealousy and insecurity. He has been cooperative during initial investigations, though his legal team is yet to make an official public statement. Police are continuing to investigate, including seeking statements from neighbours and extended family to ascertain the context and whether any prior incidents contributed to the escalation.

The case has drawn attention on social media and in local news, with many highlighting how misdirected jealousy and lack of communication can lead to deeply harmful behaviour in relationships. Legal experts say that aside from physical harm, the emotional trauma caused by such acts can have long-term psychological effects on victims, underscoring the importance of timely legal and counselling interventions. Authorities say they are handling the matter sensitively and will take appropriate action based on the evidence gathered.
