Sir Keir Starmer will face Labour MPs this evening as he battles to remain in No 10.

The Prime Minister is clinging on to his job amid a backlash over his appointment of Lord Mandelson as US ambassador despite knowing his links to Jeffrey Epstein continued after the financier's conviction for child sex offences.

In a fresh blow today following the resignation of his chief of staff yesterday, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called on Sir Keir to quit.

At a hastily convened press conference in Glasgow, Mr Sarwar said: "The distraction needs to end and the leadership in Downing Street has to change."
