Massive Poll Infrastructure in Place

A total of 30,495 polling stations have been set up across the state to ensure smooth voting. This includes 24 additional auxiliary booths introduced after a recent revision of electoral rolls. These extra facilities are spread across key districts such as Kasaragod, Kannur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Ernakulam.

Adding a progressive touch, 352 polling booths will be managed entirely by women, while 37 will be operated by persons with disabilities, highlighting a strong push towards inclusivity.

Assembly Elections: Workforce and Security Tightened

For these crucial Assembly elections, authorities have mobilised a large workforce. Around 1.46 lakh trained officials will manage polling operations, supported by 76,000 police and central forces personnel to maintain law and order.

Preventive action has also been strict, about 2,000 individuals have been detained, over 11,000 non-bailable warrants executed, and 3,400 social media posts removed for violating election norms.

Voter-Friendly Initiatives Take Centre Stage

Efforts have been made to turn polling stations into welcoming spaces. Officials are aiming for a festive, accessible environment with improved facilities. Among 30 new initiatives introduced, voters will now have the option to safely deposit mobile phones at booths.

Advance voting has seen strong participation, with 98% of home voting already completed. Emergency service personnel have recorded 95% turnout, while polling staff participation stands at 50%.

Silence Period and Strict Rules in Force

The silence period began at 6 pm on Tuesday, putting a complete halt to campaign activities, media interactions, and public outreach. Authorities have also enforced a dry day from Tuesday evening to Thursday evening.

Exit polls will remain banned from 9 am on April 9 until 6:30 pm on April 29, covering the entire election period.

Heat Precautions and Transparency Measures

With rising temperatures, special arrangements like fans and drinking water will be available at polling booths to ensure voter comfort. Additionally, webcasting and videography will be carried out to maintain transparency and build public trust in the process.

As Kerala heads into polling day, the focus remains on smooth conduct, strong security, and maximum voter participation.
