Kolkata Metro To Run Additional Purple Line Trains & Longer Hours From December
Metro commuters in Kolkata will soon have more travel options on the Purple Line as weekday services are set to increase along with longer operating hours. The revised schedule comes into effect from 1 December 2025 and is expected to ease the rush for passengers travelling between Joka and Majerhat. The change will also help thousands who switch to Eastern Railway’s local train services at Majerhat, especially during busy morning and late evening hours.
The day will also start a little earlier for commuters. The first train from Joka will now leave at 6.40 am, which is ten minutes earlier than before. From Majerhat, the first service of the day will begin at 7.03 am.
According to officials, the extended hours will particularly help those using the Sealdah–Budge Budge suburban line, many of whom rely on Majerhat for switching between Metro and local trains. The new timings are expected to offer smoother connectivity during the late evening rush.
