Man Kills Friend and Cuts Body into Pieces Under Drug Influence; CCTV Captures Incident
A chilling murder case from Ludhiana has shocked Punjab after CCTV footage exposed a couple transporting a dismembered body hidden inside a household drum on a motorcycle. What initially appeared as a missing person case soon unravelled into a gruesome tale of drugs, debt, and betrayal between friends.
Punjab Police confirmed the arrest of carpenter Shamsher Singh Shera and his wife, Kuldeep Kaur, for the murder of Davinder Singh, a 30-year-old digital printing professional from Mumbai. Davinder’s body, cut into six pieces, was found scattered near the Jalandhar Bypass on Thursday, triggering an intense investigation.
According to police, Davinder arrived in Ludhiana by train on January 6 to purchase new printing machinery. Soon after, he visited Shamsher, a friend he knew earlier. At Shamsher’s house, the two allegedly consumed “chitta,” a local term for heroin. Under the influence of the drug, an argument erupted over an unpaid debt.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Verma said the dispute turned violent when Shamsher pushed Davinder during the altercation, causing him to fall unconscious. Mistaking him for dead, Shamsher allegedly used a saw to cut the body into pieces , a process that reportedly took over two hours, while his children were playing on the roof. Police say Kuldeep Kaur later helped clean the scene and dispose of the remains.
The Deputy Commissioner said, “During the altercation, Shamsher pushed Davinder, which knocked him unconscious. Believing the man was dead, Shamsher used a saw to dismember the body, a process that reportedly took him two and a half hours.”
CCTV footage later captured the couple carrying the body parts inside a drum on a bike, which ultimately led investigators to them. Most of the remains have since been recovered, though one arm is still missing. Police suspect it may have been taken away by stray animals.
Both Shamsher and Kuldeep remain in police custody and have been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy. As the investigation continues, officials say the case highlights the brutal consequences of drug abuse and unresolved personal disputes, reflecting the darker side of Punjab’s ongoing narcotics crisis.
