Matrishakti card to Yuvashakti hopeful: TMC pans BJP goof
Kolkata: A day after launching " Matrishakti Bharosa card " for women, BJP on Thursday unveiled the " Yuvashakti Bharosa card " for youth, a physical token of the party's commitment to both sections in its manifesto. Trinamool panned the saffron party for handing a "Matrishakti" card to a youth, alleging "mismanagement before the programme took off".
"Yuvashakti Bharosa" is a key pre-poll promise by BJP to address the state's youth and counter Trinamool's "Yuva Saathi" scheme, launched nearly two months back. BJP, in its manifesto, has promised to double the direct cash benefit component to both women and youth.
"The bigger question is why the youth are migrating from Bengal. They are looking for better quality of life and job opportunities. Economy, education and sports are declining as Bengal is going down," Paes said.
Bengal BJP netas said party workers have already started issuing cards to voters. They will use the distribution process to collect voter details and symbolically "enrol" them into the future scheme. "This will not only strengthen ground-level engagement but will also create a buzz and provide a prelude to what voters can expect under a BJP govt," a party senior said.
Meanwhile, TMC took a dig at BJP, alleging that a photograph of a youth with a "Matrishakti" card was posted on party's social networking handles but removed later. TMC also alleged that there was a shortfall in the number of cards being distributed.
A Bengal BJP functionary said they were not aware of "any such goofs".
