The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7 degrees celsius.

It warned of hot and humid conditions in 11 coastal districts for the next six days from Monday.

Besides, heat wave warning was issued for four districts — Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Bargarh — which is likely to prevail over three days from Tuesday, the forecast said.

The IMD issued a series of advisory to beat heatwave as well as hot and humid conditions.

Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre, said wind pattern and a clear sky condition would support rise in mercury level.

In the wake of IMD's heatwave, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner has issued an advisory to district collectors.
