The UK is set to be hit by a surge of Arctic weather, bringing widespread snowfall to as many as 31 areas across the country. The Met Office has named the areas where widespread snow could fall tomorrow, February 4, and winter lovers will be pleased to hear that vast swathes of the country could see snow.

Yellow rain weather warnings are in place for tomorrow for southwest England and south Wales, with a few spots at risk of seeing in excess of 30mm. Meanwhile, 10-20mm of rain is likely to have fallen fairly widely by the end of Thursday. Kicking off at 5am tomorrow, the weather warning will run all the way until 11.59pm that night.

"Given the widely saturated ground conditions, some low impact surface water flooding is probable, with difficult driving conditions from spray, flowing water or flooded roads in particular", a Met Office spokesperson said.

Spanning 18 hours a separate yellow rain weather warning is in place for Central, Tayside & Fife as well as Grampian in Scotland. The warning came into force at 6pm this evening, January 5 and will remain in place until midday tomorrow.

The forecaster then predicts that the rain will then turn into snow.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "15-30 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely with 30-40 mm possible in some places.

"Some melting of lying snow is also likely. Rain will then start to turn to snow above 300 to 400 metres later on Thursday morning."

The weather agency also forecast that snow is possible across "north Wales, the Pennines and Scottish mountains".

Winds are likely to stay strong in the north and temperatures will be around average.
