Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl all drop prices of Christmas essential to 5p
With Christmas just around the corner, you might be starting to think about picking up essentials for your dinner. Some supermarkets are competing to provide the best prices for Christmas goods this year, with popular chains lowering costs.
Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl have dropped the price of their festive vegetable range to just 5p. Aldi and Lidl set the standard last year by dropping their vegetable prices to 8p, according to The Grocer. Morrisons announced that from now until 26 December, More Card customers would be able to buy carrots (1kg, usual price 69p), parsnips (500g, usual price 74p), sprouts (500g, usual price £1), and whole swedes (usual price 62p), all for 5p each.
It is also dropping the price of 1.5kg of roasting potatoes for all shoppers, from £2.20 to £1.
Aldi announced it would sell white potatoes (2kg), carrots (1kg), parsnips (500g), red and white cabbages, sprouts (500g) and whole swedes for 5p per item from December 19.
The supermarket is putting a cap on each variety of four purchases per shopper "due to customer demand".
Lidl announced the same offer on potatoes, carrots, parsnips, sprouts and swedes, from 19-24 December. It is also offering echalion shallots (300g) for 5p.
You might be wondering how other supermarkets compare.
For Sainsbury's shoppers, Nectar members can get seven fresh vegetables from the supermarket's own brand for 15p until Christmas Eve.
This includes carrots (1kg), Brussels sprouts (500g), white potatoes (2kg), parsnips (500g), swede, red cabbage and white cabbage.
Tesco is offering annual Christmas veg prices for 15p, but only to Clubcard members.
Available until December 25, shoppers can get carrots (1kg), all-arounder potatoes (2kg), Brussel sprouts (500g), parsnips (500g), broccoli, swede, and red cabbage.
