Most Fire TV Sticks could be at risk on this date, check your model now
If you've got a Fire TV Stick tucked in the rear of your TV, there's an important update from Amazon that's definitely worth popping in the diary. The technology company has just outlined how long its popular streaming devices will continue to receive vital software and security updates, and some might be surprised by the timeline.
According to Amazon, Fire TV devices are only guaranteed security updates for at least four years from the date of purchase.
So what does that mean in practice? Most current Fire TV Stick models are set to receive updates until December 31, 2030. The only exception is the Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Generation), which is expected to stop receiving guaranteed updates a year earlier, on December 31, 2029.
Here's the full support timeline:
• Fire TV Stick 4K Select - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick Lite - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick (3rd Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick HD (2nd Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick HD (1st Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2029
Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation) - will be supported until 31 December 2030
It's worth noting that these deadlines do not mean your Fire TV Stick will suddenly stop working or block you from watching content.
Amazon also stresses that these timelines aren't a promise of how long the hardware itself will last-just how long updates are expected to be provided.
If you're unsure which Fire TV Stick you own, you can check directly on the device by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About, where you'll find the model name and generation.
