Marks & Spencer has announced plans to build a new UK megastore with a "best-in-class Foodhall". The shop, which will span a whopping 18,000 sq ft, will create up to 70 new jobs.

Plans have been unveiled to construct the M&S megastore in Northwich, Cheshire, with developers describing it as "one of the most modern in the UK". The store will include M&S food, an in-store bakery and wine shops. There will also be a click and collect facility available to customers at the site.

As reported by The Sun, David Hughes, the regional manager for M&S, said: "We are excited to reveal our plans to return to Northwich from a new location where we can offer the very best of M&S."

He added: "The store would be one of the most modern in the UK, offering the food hall favourites we are known for, from the highest quality fresh produce to the latest product launches."

The previous M&S store in Nantwich opened in 1908 but sadly closed six years ago. Marth Rothery, managing director of developer Rothstone Estates, said the plans are "an opportunity to bring a high-quality, modern retail use back to the heart of the town," adding they will achieve a "best-in-class Foodhall".

The supermarket is set to be built on land off Leicester Street. In the plans, M&S has opened a feedback form for people living in the area.

The form states: "M&S would like to open a new M&S Foodhall on land off Leicester Street in Northwich town centre. Working with the developers, Rothstone Estates, a planning application will be submitted to Cheshire West & Chester Council in the coming weeks."

According to the proposals, the supermarket will be open from 8am to 9pm between Monday and Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. It will include a car park consisting of 157 spaces.
