After RoboDog Controversy, Galgotias University Professor Goes ‘Open to Work’ on LinkedIn

The fallout from the robodog controversy at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 has taken a fresh turn as Professor Neha Singh changed her professional status on LinkedIn to “Open to Work.” The update has drawn attention because it follows widespread backlash over how Galgotias University presented a robotic dog at its exhibition booth in New Delhi.

The incident began when Singh, who teaches in the communications department at Galgotias University, introduced a robotic dog named “Orion” at the summit and described it as having been developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence. That description quickly went viral on social media, with tech observers and netizens identifying the robot as a Unitree Go2, a commercially available product manufactured by China-based Unitree Robotics rather than an original innovation created on campus.

Following criticism and online ridicule, organisers at the AI summit asked Galgotias University to vacate its exhibition stall. This added to the public pressure on the institution and the academics involved. In response to the uproar, Galgotias University issued multiple statements, eventually apologising and calling the episode a misunderstanding caused by an “ill-informed” representative who was not authorised to speak to the media. The university said it never intended to suggest it had built the robotic dog itself and emphasised that there was no institutional intent to mislead.

In the midst of this turmoil, Singh updated her LinkedIn profile: instead of listing herself only as a professor at Galgotias University, she added “Open to Work,” signalling that she is open to new professional opportunities. The change in status has been widely shared and discussed online, with many users interpreting it as a possible indication that her position at the university may be in jeopardy or that she is seeking to distance herself from the controversy.

Singh’s LinkedIn profile now highlights her background in communication and public speaking, referencing her experience helping others develop articulation and confidence. Prior to joining Galgotias University in late 2023 she worked at other academic institutions and also served as a mentor in verbal ability, underlining her expertise in language and interpersonal skills.

The robodog episode has sparked wider discussion about transparency and representation at academic and technological events. Critics say that academic institutions must be clear about what work they can legitimately claim as their own, particularly when showcased at high-profile gatherings with global attention. Supporters of Singh stress that her intentions were not to mislead, pointing to her follow-up statements in which she said the misunderstanding arose from how she expressed herself during the presentation.

As the controversy continues to reverberate through social media and news coverage, Singh’s professional update has become yet another focal point in a broader debate about credentials, accountability and institutional credibility in India’s expanding tech and innovation ecosystem.
