Netflix drops first look at dark crime drama based on 'masterpiece' thriller novel
Netflix has released the official trailer for a "brilliant" crime drama that will keep fans "guessing right to the very end". As the New Year is almost here, Netflix is teasing some exciting thrillers for fans to binge-watch at the start of 2026 with Harlan Coben's Run Away dropping on New Year's Day. The streamer has now dropped the trailer for His and Hers, a six-part crime drama based on author Alice Feeney's 2020 best-selling novel of the same name.
Its teaser kicks off with a voiceover from journalist Anna (played by Tessa Thompson) who darkly remarks: "I used to think that when bad things happen that it was just random chaos but bad things happen because you bring them on yourself." Next thing fans see is a clip of a woman's body lying on top of a car in the woods.
Police officers have cordoned off the crime scene as they are hounded by curious reporters that they try to ignore until Anna shouts: "Detective Harper, is it true you knew her?"
It's soon revealed that Anna is DCI Jack Harper's (Jon Bernthal) ex-wife and they quickly grow suspicious of one another and both become suspects in the murder investigation.
The trailer then ends with her remarking: "There are two sides to every story. Ours and theirs. Yours and mine. His and hers. Which means someone is always lying."
It also reveals that His and Hers is going to make its debut on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Marvel fans would have noticed that at the heart of His and Hers are Asgardian warrior Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson and The Punisher's Jon Bernthal.
Thompson has also been in Creed, Passing and Hedda, while Bernthal's other parts have featured in The Walking Dead and The Bear.
Describing the book as a "masterpiece", a fan continued: "I couldn't put this book down until I have finished it. It was fast-paced, enthralling, thrilling, tense, and satisfying."
A second echoed: "One of the best suspense books I've read in the past few years. Highly recommended, if you think you know then you just don't!"
Someone else labelled it "fabulously twisty", while a fellow user commented: "It keeps you guessing right to the very end."
While other fans took to YouTube's comments section to point out the drama's connection to the Marvel universe.
A fan exclaimed: "Punisher and Valkyrie? I'm all for it" and a second remarked: "I did not expect a team up between Valkyrie and the Punisher."
A touch of Hollywood is also behind the cameras with The Help and It star Jessica Chastain brought on as an executive producer.
His and Hers premieres on Thursday, January 8, 2026 on Netflix.
