In a rare and unusual case in Pune, a love marriage came to an end just a day after the wedding. The couple, who had been in a relationship for two to three years, chose to legally part ways after serious differences surfaced immediately after tying the knot.

The woman, a doctor, and the man, an engineer, reportedly disagreed over their living arrangements and could not reach a mutual understanding. Advocate Rani Sonawane, who handled the case, said the ideological differences between the husband and wife were so deep that they “chose to separate without delay.”

“Importantly, there was no allegation of violence or criminal wrongdoing in the case. Both individuals opted to follow the legal process calmly and ended the marriage by mutual consent,” she added.

Highlighting the unusual speed of the proceedings, Sonawane pointed out that divorce cases in India often remain pending for months or even years. In this instance, however, the matter was resolved swiftly, with the couple beginning to live separately from the very next day of their wedding.

“The marriage was a love marriage, and the couple had known each other for two to three years prior to tying the knot. After the wedding, the husband informed the wife that he works on a ship and could not specify when or where he would be posted or for how long he would be away,” the advocate added.

She further explained that considering the uncertain living arrangement, the couple mutually agreed that separation would be the best option. “The court delivered its decision after considering the Supreme Court's guidelines applicable in such cases,” Advocate Sonawane said.

Sonawane also expressed surprise that such a crucial issue had not been discussed during the two-year relationship the couple shared prior to the wedding. She highlighted that while love marriages often come with strong emotional bonds, practical considerations like work schedules and living arrangements remain vital for long-term compatibility.

This unusual case stands out not only for the speed of the legal proceedings but also for the calm, mutual approach the couple took in resolving their differences, setting an example of an amicable, lawful separation.
