NSUI to protest 'RSS' event on Raj univ campus today

Jaipur: Functionaries of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) held a presser Thursday to announce that they would protest a proposed event organised by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Rajasthan University campus Friday.

NSUI said an invite to an event named ‘Key Public Gathering (Matrushakti)' to be held at the aumanities auditorium on Friday was being shared on social media.

The invite states, "In this centenary year (of RSS), the Sangh has resolved—by rallying the virtuous forces within society—to build an organised, capable and prosperous India that serves as an ideal for the world. To realise this resolve, a ‘Key Public Gathering' is being organised to engage in dialogue with the distinguished and influential women leaders (Matrushakti) of society."

Dr Sunita, a research fellow at the university who has been mentioned on the invite as a contact person for the event, said, "This event is to bring strong decision-making women of society to discuss issues faced by women.

We have not published any invite, and we met the women individually who will participate on Friday. This is not an RSS event, it is being organised by Marudhar Nari Sashaktikaran Sangathan." She added that the organisation has taken due permission from the administration to use the university space.

NSUI functionary Amardeep Parihar said the university does not allow events like marathons to take place, but such an event has been allowed. Bharat Bhushan, national coordinator (university wing), ABVP, said, "The programme scheduled for tomorrow is a women-centric event.

Will NSUI now oppose a programme dedicated to women?"
