SALEM: V C Asokan, State-Level Coordinator for the oil industry in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said on Thursday that the sector, in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Tamil Nadu government, has stepped up LPG supply across both regions, with a special focus on migrant workers amid global supply disruptions.

"Key measures included doubling the daily availability of 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinders ," he said.

He added, supply increased significantly from 7 April 2026, reaching about 70% above pre-crisis levels. Further steps were underway to double 5-kg cylinder availability for migrant populations. The targeted areas included Chennai, Thiruvallur, Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur.

As part of the distribution plan, LPG distributors have been deployed directly to migrant labour clusters. Cylinders are being supplied at industrial hubs, construction sites and worker settlements. Over-the-counter sales are available through petrol pumps and shops in areas with high migrant populations. On-ground sales campaigns are also being carried out.

To improve access, new 5-kg Free Trade LPG connections are being issued with minimal documentation. Only basic identity proof, such as Aadhaar, is required. Existing customers can also obtain refills easily.

Asokan said LPG supply remains stable across both regions, with adequate stocks at bottling plants and distributorships. He added that 5-kg cylinders are readily available for migrant workers.
